The most hideous lamps I have ever seen

But I do kind of want them.  I'd probably paint them gold - the whole thing. and then smile at them everytime I see them.  I have even named them already Sparrow boy and Mr Hawk Eyes. Yee haaa

I could buy them here on etsy - of course.

How do you learn anything in this type of environment?

little favourite things

holidays holiday holidays

I am busy planning an imaginery holiday again.  I think I need some world culture, good coffee and eye candy. This is all well deserved as I have been living in the bush for 6 months.  I have to pee next to my hut.  Painted a pretty clear picture there, didn't I.  Enough said.  I think you all get it.  Oh, and lots of good coffee shops to rest in between sucking up oodles of  kulltcha - yeah baby.  So, I of course decided that Rome was a good place to go or Florence.  Have lost myself in looking at cool hotels for the good part of the last hour.

*SIGH*

This is the place I would stay, if I could Portrait Suites - Rome

Paris fashion blog - Style in the city

Style in the city: Paris, London & New York

So this blog motto claims 'to humanize fashion on the streets of Paris/London/New York'.
Well... the problem is everyone in the photos is friggin gorgoeus, skinny french model doing cool stuff around Paris. And they do look like real photos - not posed. Well some of them.  Ridiculous really... unless everyone in Paris is this HOTT which makes it even worse.

Anyhoo - it's all in french but the pics are lush.  In my head am imagining writing this with French accent. And of course looking like that while riding a bicycle (fresh and dewy eyed) as opposed to hot and bothered while screaming at insane french traffic.

Salve ~ Karen Jay

This is not the print I own by Karen Jay already but I wouldn't mind having this one too.  I bought mine at these4walls gallery in Observatory.  I like it a lot.  They stock young artists and the art is actually affordable if you are a normal earning individual.  But to be honest it is their Friday night drinks with new artist launch that really get me.  Loud and edging toward raucous but not makes them a lot more relaxing to pop in for a drink or 3.

Besotted

Mr Almieda Jose from Ngo Village arrived today with the 5 large baskets I ordered.  All I can say is that I am besotted.  The time and care is so clear in the weaving pattern.  Perfectly neat and the shape of the basket is sending me into raptures.

I own 2 pieces of Ibo silver jewellery but I have never been to the island. These jewellers have been around since the 1600's and conitnue with the same techniques today. I am working on a range that will be made by the Ibo jewellers for my shop in Cape Town.

craft shop - my nkwichi times

the shop with various local crafts. there is absolutely no other tourism development in this part of mozambique and as such the local crafts people only make items for practical use. their techniques are great though and it has been lovely to work with them in producing items for sale and to use in the lodge.

commisioned from Alex who comes over from malawi to sell us his carvings. steadly moving away from salad servers, carved crocodiles and fish ashtrays. Slowly but surely.

the lodge carpenters made these lovely snakes from all our bottle caps and the milk cartons.

Bernadho from mala village weaves over all our old wine bottles and then we use them for drinking water and table wine at dinner.

other items include placemats and coasters, beuatiful wooden paddles made from indigenous teak, flat baskets used to dry maize in and picture frames made from interesting pieces of fallen wood
